Most Constant Velocity and universal joint service since before the Model T has been done using makeshift tools and by hammering on the parts until something gives! Driveshaft parts and universal joints are incredibly precise components that can be easily damaged by such slam-bang work. Today's driveshafts may look similar to those used 50 to 100 years ago, but they are built to much tighter tolerances, transmit unbelievable amounts of torque, and cost more than the old Tin Lizzies sold for new. There is a better way to perform driveshaft service on your rig by using application specific press tooling and approved service procedures. Yes, Manuals and Tools are expensive, but when you consider that the reduced service life of expensive driveshaft parts, plus the risk of personal injury, the cost is not hard to justify.

C-Frame Press and Adapters for Universal Joint Service
Using a C-Frame Press with the appropriate adapters for your universal joints is the best way to press universal joints in and out for reducing the chances of part damage and minimizing the potential injury with both iron and aluminum driveshafts. This is especially true when using a C-Frame with a Separator Yoke to press out large or corroded in u-joints. Compared to most other removal methods, the C-Frame/ Yoke halves the amount of force that needs to be applied to push out a cap because you are only forcing one cup to move instead of two, plus there is no chance of permanently spreading or compressing the yoke ears which frequently occurs with other service methods. For installation, the press tooling also excels by eliminating impact damage to precision machined components that typically occurs when u-joints are hammered in.  
QT1065 Series Long Throat C-Frame Press High-strength presses are designed to accept a variety of interchangeable tooling for performing Ball Joint and Universal Joint service on your 4x4. A heavy-duty tool that will get help you quickly, easily and safely remove and install driveshaft and axle shaft universal joints on most mid to full size 4x4 vehicles up to Class 5 (1-1/2 ton) ratings.
QT4008 Medium Size U-Joint Separator Yoke for 1330 to 1415 series universal joints is used with a QT1065 series C-frame Press and QT4016 Press Anvil to easily remove universal joints on most common light truck driveshafts and 4x4 front axle shafts. By placing the press force against the u-joint cross, the amount of pressure needed to break a cup free is halved and the chances of damaging the yokes is greatly reduced.
QT4009 Large Size U-Joint Separator Yoke is used with a QT1065 series C-frame Press and QT4015 Press Anvil to easily remove large 1480 and 1485 series universal joints with 1-3/8" cup diameters on many heavy-duty 3/4 ton through 1-1/2 ton diesel light truck driveshafts and 4x4 front axle shafts. Also works on Dana 44 and Dana 50 axle shafts using 1310 and 1350 axle u-joints when used with QT4016 anvil. By placing the press force against the u-joint cross, the amount of pressure needed to break a cup free is halved and the chances of damaging the yokes is greatly reduced.
QT4010 1" Press Tip is used with a QT1065 series C-frame Press and QT4016 Press Anvil to easily install universal joints with 1-1/16" to 1-3/16" diameter cups on most common light truck driveshafts and 4x4 front axle shafts.

QT4011 1-1/4" Press Tip is used with a QT1065 series C-frame Press and QT4015 Press Anvil to easily install universal joints with 1-3/8" diameter cups on most heavy-duty 3/4 ton through 1-1/2 ton rear driveshafts and 4x4 front axle shafts.
QT4014 1-1/16" Capacity U-Joint Press Anvil is used with QT1065 series C-Frame Presses and either QT4008 U-Joint Separator Yoke or QT4010 1" Press Tip. We make this Anvil to work on yokes with limited clearance that take Spicer 1310 and 1330 series universal joints with 1-1/16" diameter cups. This Tool will work on all the 1310 and 1330 driveshaft and axle shaft yokes we have seen over the past 30 some years. Can be replaced by QT4016 for the vast majority of 1310 and 1330 applications, but if you do a lot of work with these smaller u-joints, sooner or later you will need one of these due to the design of some of the yokes.
QT4015 1-3/8" Capacity U-Joint Press Anvil is used with a QT1065 series C-frame Press and either QT4009 Large U-Joint Separator Yoke or QT4011 1-1/4" Press Tip to easily remove and install 1480 and 1485 series universal joints on most heavy duty 3/4 ton through 1-1/2 ton diesel light truck driveshafts and 4x4 front axle shafts.
QT4016 1-1/16" to 1-3/16" Capacity U-Joint Press Anvils used with a QT1065 series C-frame Press and either QT4008/QT4009 U-Joint Separator Yokes or QT4010 1" Press Tip to easily remove and install most popular automotive axle shaft and driveshaft universal joints up to 4-3/16" overall width commonly found on SUVs and pickups.
